Aspen Origin Story

Our story began with a group of impassioned Parkinson’s disease patients and advocates who set out to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness and funding for stem cell research. They joined forces with scientists who shared a bold vision: to harness the power of regenerative medicine to transform the future of Parkinson’s disease. Together, they helped spark a movement that united patients, families, researchers, and supporters around a common goal: advancing personalized therapies for people living with Parkinson’s disease.

That vision led to the development of a therapy made from a patient’s own cells, designed to restore the dopamine-producing neurons lost to Parkinson’s disease. The regenerative nature of this approach inspired our founders to name the company Aspen – the first tree to regenerate after destruction because of its extensive interconnected root systems which also mirror the neural network of the brain.

Like every person, every Aspen tree is unique. Its rings tell a story, serving as both a fingerprint and a record of a life well lived. Each ring reflects years of growth, challenge, strength, and resilience. Our approach to personalized medicine is rooted in the same philosophy. By starting with a patient’s own cells, we preserve the unique biological characteristics they have accumulated throughout their life while reprogramming those cells to an earlier state. Through the regenerative power represented by the Aspen tree, we seek to turn back the cellular clock, replace dopamine neurons to counteract neurodegeneration and create new therapeutic possibilities for patients.
